Semiconductor shortage has dominated news headlines for much of 2021. In 2021, whenever asked about when the supply constraint will improve, the answers from semiconductor companies have always been "it will get better in 6 to 12 months." However, "6 to 12 months" turned out to be a moving window, and the date of eventual supply-demand balance keeps getting pushed out. It is the same old story this time around, with no sign of shortage easing so far, but it is expected to get better in the second half of 2022 or 2023, i.e., another 6 to 12 months.
Industry-wide supply availability, logistics disruptions, and cost increase negatively impacted our Q3 top-line growth by about three to four points and gross margins by approximately two percentage points. -- Logitech
As we predicted, these ecosystem constraints are expected to persist through 2022 and into 2023, with incremental improvements over this period. The industry will continue to see challenges in a variety of areas, including specialty and overall foundry shortages, substrates, as well as third-party silicon. -- Intel
In 2022, the supply chain will continue to be the fundamental limiter of output across all factories. So the chip shortage, while better than last year, is still an issue. But I think the chip stuff, at least the chip side of things, looks like it will alleviate end of this year or '23. -- Tesla
Supply and demand imbalance, which we have seen and all the industry has seen last year and a large part of 2020, I think will be a bit more moderate in 2022. I think this year, the supply-demand is more moderate. –- MediaTek
In the aggregate, we experienced supply constraints that were higher than in the September quarter. –- Apple
We are still experiencing significant supply chain-related headwinds, associated with rising component and elevated freight costs, which are expected to continue at least through the first half of the year. We expect supply chain constraints to be particularly tight from the first half and remain challenged throughout the remainder of the year. –- Juniper
Logistic issues aside, another critical piece to solving the chip shortage is to bring more chip manufacturing equipment and capacity online. However, the irony is that companies making those types of equipment can't get enough chips to make the machines that make the chips.
March quarter revenue levels will be limited by the output constraints of our global supply chain, and this is reflected in our guidance. We are dealing with broadening out of supply chain constraints which we know we're going to fix over time. –- Lam Research
Rising product lead times driven by increased supply chain constraints are limiting our near-term output. These issues are reducing our revenue expectation by 8% to 10% for the March quarter. -- KLA Corp
We are doing our utmost to respond as best as we can to external challenges, including COVID-related absenteeism and material shortages in our supply chain. -- ASML
